Medical Sales Representative, Ashfield Healthcare
Ryan graduated from the University of Hull with a First Class BSc (Hons) in Sport, Health & Exercise Science in 2016. During his third year at University, Ryan acted as an intern for the first team at Scunthorpe United FC, providing strength and conditioning support. In his final year, he was also vice-president of the University ice hockey team and recipient of the Netta Graham award for student excellence.
So keen was Ryan to get out into the working world he even missed his own July graduation ceremony! Ryan was instead attending a training course for a Medical Sales Representative position he had recently secured with Ashfield Healthcare, a global leader in commercialisation services for the pharmaceutical and healthcare industry.
Now working across the Leeds and Wakefield area, Ryan is currently selling products within the Respiratory, Oncology and Dermatology therapy areas. While working for Ashfield Healthcare, Ryan is working towards the ABPI qualification required by all pharmaceutical sales representatives.
When he went for his job interview, Ryan found himself up against candidates from a wide variety of degrees, and he wasn’t sure what his interviewers would make of his sport science background. Ryan found that the range of skills he’d developed in SHES, including presenting at STC gave him a huge advantage against his competitors. Ryan is keen to share with you the wide variety of opportunities available to SHES students and the kind of employers that seek our graduates. If you’re keen to find out more about a career in sales, Ryan will be featuring in a seminar later in the day with another SHES graduate where you can learn more about different career options, and ask questions.
